As a volunteer with the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park (FOCCSP), I understand that certain hazards and risks exist while participating in the organizations activities. While some hazards cannot be controlled, the risks of injury can be substantially lessened by a culture of safety.
As a chapter of the Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, which has a legal arrangement with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), I understand that we are obligated to comply with the safety policies established by DNR. I further acknowledge that I have had the opportunity to read these policies and agree to comply with them. My failure to comply with these regulations may warrant the limitation of the activities in which I may participate.
Some of the safety rules of DNR policy and rules of FOCCSP are outlined below:
- The use of the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while performing activities at the park. These requirements apply whether using personal or Park equipment. Specific examples include:
- Chainsaw – Appropriate clothing plus eye protection, gloves, substantial footwear, protective leggings (chaps) and hardhat, when appropriate.
- String Trimmer – Long pants, substantial footwear and eye protection.
- Other Tools – Proper PPE will be that required by the crew leader.
- Hearing protection is required if sustained exposure to loud noises is present.
- If equipment is not in proper working order, DO NOT attempt to use it.
- Operation of chainsaw requires a minimum of a two person workforce.
- The Park staff should be notified when using power tools on Park property.
This safety program requires a personal commitment. Each volunteer is responsible for his/her own actions and should notify others if unsafe actions are being performed. Notifications should be made to the volunteer performing the unsafe act but may need to be reported to the crew leader or Park staff to prevent possible personal injury.
By signing below, I pledge to participate in and uphold the safety program of the FOCCSP.
